Disappearing Beauties of Brighton

Selma Montfort created this walk in 1973 to guide people through Brighton's "unexpected corners, alley-ways, streets, tiny roads, crescents, sudden squares, pubs and sea views." Many people who traverse through these long-established spaces feel a sense of beauty and freedom and an inheritance of those values like Selma does. However, apprehension threads through her tour. With each step she explains the damaging impact that developers' building plans will have, and had already had, on these hidden jewels. Some of the sites are still intact and some have changed. What do you think of these sites as they are now? Can you imagine what they were once like? Through this tour I'll ask you for your feelings about these beauties of Brighton.
