Bis heute gilt das Hochtal Fondei im hintersten Schanfigg als Geheimtipp. Kaum ein Hochtal in den Alpen weist eine so gut erhaltene, typisch walserische Kulturlandschaft auf. Schmale sonnenverbrannte Holzhäuser liegen verstreut oder in kleinen Gruppen in blühenden Bergwiesen. Schmale Wege verbinden sie und führen auf die Berggrate. Ein Bild, wie es wohl über Jahrhunderte für die Walsergebiete galt.
