What do you want to know?

Collecting points, proving knowledge or puzzling: Bounds can be made diverse and exciting with various quiz modes

  • With a quiz element, players can actively participate in the Bound and prove their knowledge.
  • The multiple answer options of a quiz element allow you freedom in the design.
  • These modes include solution input, multiple choice, sort list, guess number, and fill-in-the-blank (Licence feature). Points are accumulated in each quiz element.

How to


  • Create a new quiz element in the Bound creator.

  • In the text field of the new window enter a question. Set how many points you want to give for the correct answer. 100 points are automatically preset.

  • In the menu tab Answer you set the Answer mode.

  • Optionally you can set the following features: correct answer required, number of tries, number of points deducted for wrong answer, hints, resolution after wrong answer, reward/don't show reprimand* and time limit.

Add a quiz item

Open your bound in the bound creator. Add a new quiz element by clicking on the Plus button and selecting the Quiz from the right menu. A new window will open with a text field: here you can enter a question. Set how many points you want to give for the correct answer. 100 points are automatically preset.

Select answer choice

In the menu tab Answer you set the answermode.
Once you have entered your question, set and filled in the answer mode, and determined options, click the blue Add/Save button to save the item to the Bound.

Solution entry

You want players to think about a question and figure out the solution themselves? In solution input mode, players enter the answer as text on their own.

To allow multiple answers or spellings, separate the answers with a vertical line (pipe '|') and without a space in between. Also, do not use special characters in the solution input.

Example

What is the name of the famous oil painting by Leonardo da Vinci?
Answer: Mona Lisa|La Gioconda

Enter the correct solution under Resolution for feedback if the answer is incorrect.

Multiple Choice

For some questions, the multiple choice mode is particularly suitable: For example, whenever several answers are correct or you consider the answer to be too difficult as a solution input. Players get concrete definitions and can get an easier first impression.

Enter and edit answer choices

To enter an answer choice, click on the gray Add button. By clicking on the green check mark, the Enter key or again on Add, the answer will be saved.

The answers will appear in the Bound in the order you set in the Bound Creator. Use the arrows to the right of your answer to change its position in the bound.
To change an answer, click on the pencil icon and adjust it. Use the trash can icon to delete the answer.

Media as answer option

As an alternative to text answers you can also upload media (pictures, videos or audios) as an answer option. To do so, click on the media upload button located to the right of the text field of the text answer. Select your appropriate media from the media library.

Mark correct answer(s)

Mark the correct answer(s) by placing a check mark in the box behind the solution.

Alternatively, you can assign individual points for selecting an answer. To do so, click on the arrow next to Correct and select points.

If more than one answer is correct, you can award partial points per correct answer: To do this, select the Rate Loosely mode. In this way, players receive points proportionally, even if they did not select all the correct answers.

Estimate number

How high does a kangaroo jump? How many employees work at Actionbound and how much oxygen does a tree actually produce?

You can ask these or similar questions in the Estimate number mode. Such a question can be useful, among other things, to give players an easier introduction to the topic. The element triggers a surprise effect in the players and arouses their curiosity.

The answer is given by means of a number line. This is often an estimated number. In the Bound Creator, you define the size of the scale and the associated tolerance frame. This allows the player to receive reward points if the answer is not 100% correct.

First enter the correct value and set the minimum and maximum value. The tolerance range is determined by specifying the deviation from the correct value at which 10% of the reward points will be deducted.

Example

How high is the Berlin TV Tower in meters?

The scale ranges from 150 to 400. The correct answer is 368. 100 points are awarded for a 100% correct answer.
The tolerance range is 10: For every 10 points deviation from 368, 10% of the maximum score is deducted. However, the answer is considered to be correct overall.
If the players are 100 points off, they receive no reward points and the answer is counted as incorrect.

**Scenario A
The answer is 300. The answer is considered correct, but 68 points are deducted, so there are only 32 reward points out of a possible 100.

**Scenario B
The answer is 210. The answer is outside the tolerance range and is therefore scored as incorrect. If there is a new attempt, additional reward points may be deducted for the incorrect attempt.

Sort list

Sorting a list doesn't sound that hard at first. The challenging part of sorting a list is that players have to recognize connections and practice structural thinking. The keywords you define in the Bound Creator support the thinking process and the formulation of your own thoughts.

Click on the gray button and add an answer. Here you also have the possibility to upload media (photo, video, audio) instead of text. By pressing the Enter key, clicking on the green checkmark or selecting Add again, the answer will be saved.

The order in which you enter the answer will later be the correct order of the list in Bound. You can change this order using the arrows. Use the pencil icon to change the content of the answer and the trash can to delete it.

Example

Sort the colors of the rainbow in descending order or sort the rescue chain in descending order.

Cloze text (license feature)

Promote reading and text comprehension, practice or consolidate vocabulary, and put keywords into context to make content easier to understand. These are the advantages of the Cloze mode, where players can independently fill in gaps, complete sentences, and earn points in the process.

First enter a continuous text and think about where a gap makes sense. To determine the gap as such, mark a word or a part of a sentence and click on the cloze button. Your selected word or phrase will now be displayed between two braces ({}). Alternatively, you can enter the braces yourself.

The bracketed words or phrases will be displayed as empty text fields in the app and have to be filled in by the players.
To allow multiple answers or spellings, separate the answers with a vertical line (pipe '|') and without a space in between. Also, do not use special characters in the solution input.
The quiz is scored as correct if all gaps have been entered correctly. The function "relaxing scoring" in the mode "Gap text" causes players to receive partial points for correct answers.

Example

A cloze contains four gaps. The players have only filled in two of the four gaps correctly. With the mode Locker evaluate, they receive now partial points. With a maximum score of 100, the players receive 50 points.

Careful!

A "greater than" sign (>) cannot be used within a cloze, as this is reserved for displaying quotations with Markdown.

Options

In each mode you can specify additional options. These include:

  1. correct answer required
  2. number of attempts
  3. number of points deducted for a wrong answer
  4. hints
  5. resolution after wrong answer
  6. do not show reward/rebuke (additional feature)

1. correct answer required

Select whether a correct answer to the question is required to continue playing. In this case, the quiz will be repeated until the question is answered correctly. Points are deducted for each attempt.

2. number of attempts

Select how many attempts the players have to answer a question correctly. If you do not change this field, the players will have only one attempt.

3. number of points deducted for a wrong answer

Select here how many points will be deducted from the players' score for a wrong answer.

4. Hints

If players answer the question incorrectly, you can give them hints. A hint will always appear if the answer was given incorrectly.
To do this, select Add and enter a tip. Click the green tick, the Enter key or Add again to enter more hints. Use the arrows to change the order of the tips.

5. resolution after wrong answer

Select whether a question should be resolved if it is answered incorrectly (even after several attempts). Beware! If you have set Correct answer required, this option is not available.

6. do not show Reward/Reprimand (additional features)

You don't want players to see how many points they have earned in a quiz? The additional feature Don't show reward/ reprimand allows players to not see the collected points, but they will be counted in the background. This is advantageous if you want to make switches dependent on points achieved.

Time limit

You want players to answer a quiz within a certain time, e.g. to prevent googling or to make tasks more exciting? In each mode you have the possibility to set such a time limit.

Specify the percentage of the score that should be deducted if the time limit is exceeded. Caution. The time starts as soon as the item is opened in the app. To prepare players for this, you can set an information in advance and tell them the time limit.

Example of use

The quiz element, in addition to its normal function as a question-answer game, is also perfectly suited to apply puzzle or escape mechanics. For example, the solution input is not a simple answer to a question, but serves as a field to enter the numerical code of a locked safe. With the Correct Answer Required option, storytelling elements are brought together with game mechanics.

Caution!

Be sure to add or save a quiz element after editing and completing it.
