Preparing download

Actionbound Helpdesk

What do you want to know?

Send your players on a search for hidden codes. Use existing codes on books, for example, or hide automatically generated QR codes in the environment.

How to

  • Create a new Scan Code element in the Bound Creator. Learn more about adding a new element to your Bound here.

  • In the Task tab of the new window, enter a task. Set how many points you want to award for scanning the correct code. 100 points are automatically preset.

  • In the menu tab Code you can set the code mode.

  • Optionally you can set the following functions: Correct code required and Don't show reward/reprimand*.

Generate QR code

Have Actionbound automatically generate QR codes for you, print them out and place them where you want your players to find them.

To download or print the code, click the QR code in the Bound Creator. The code will open in high resolution in a new tab, right click to save the image. Give the file a name so you know where to place the QR code.
Alternatively, you can download all QR codes of your Bound from the Bound Dashboard.

Note

The content of automatically generated codes is composed of two parts:

  1. URL of the bound
  2. Unique code.
If the code is scanned with a normal code scanner app, you will land on the Bound page. This is where the bound can be started. If the code is scanned with the Actionbound app without the Bound already running, the Bound will also be started. If you don't want this to happen, you have to use your own code.

Use your own code

If you want to use an existing code or don't want the QR code to redirect to your Bound if necessary, use the Use your own code option.

To add a own code to your Bound, click the blue Scan button and follow the on-screen instructions:

  • A QR code will appear on the screen. Scan it with the Actionbound app.
  • Now scan the desired QR or barcode with the Actionbound app.
  • The code is automatically entered in the Bound Creator.

Alternatively, you can enter the content of the code directly under Code (e.g. the numbers under the barcode).

Example of use

Let players explore a new environment and guide them through buildings or to places they don't know yet using the code scanning feature. Have Actionbound generate QR codes for you and hide or attach them to the locations you describe in the assignment.

You want players to get to grips with an environment and, for example, find a particular book in a library? Use the Use your own code function and scan the barcode of a book, for example. In the task, give players hints as to which book it is: They say she's the strongest girl in the world. In her colorful house she lives with her little uncle and Mr. Nilsson. Find the book you are looking for.

Caution!

The automatically generated QR code contains the URL of the bound as part of the code. If you duplicate the compound or copy the Scan Code element to another compound, the code will also change (because the new compound has its own URL). If you have already printed the code, you have to replace it with the new code.

Test the codes when you have finished the compound. This is especially advisable if you distribute the codes publicly (e.g. on flyers or in a book).
